new beginnings, change, hope

We just went through the Easter season, and for me it always brings to mind thoughts of new beginnings, change, and the hope that propels these things.  Sometimes in our lives we experience periods of stagnancy and need a reboot. At other times, we go through very trying times that change us and we need to just sit with ourselves and learn this new version of ourselves and figure out how to move forward. We may find ourselves feeling stuck and unsure or even fearful of what comes next. For me, that’s where hope comes in.

What is hope really? Hope – a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen; a feeling of trust. Hope is not tangible, but it’s very real and very powerful.

In those moments when we can’t see past the moment we’re in, a fleeting thought, a long-forgotten memory, a smile, a feeling of warmth, something enters and allows a little light in… that something is hope. Just when you think all is lost, it appears. I’m sure you’ve all heard the saying “hope springs eternal” before, and if you’re anything like me, you probably moved right on past it. I’ve learned though that hope really does keep showing up. Sometimes, we just need to be patient and actively wait for it. Have you ever thought you had given up on something only to have a flash of inspiration or help from an unexpected source a few minutes, hours, or days later? Have you ever bemoaned the fact that something or someone would never change and said you stopped believing, only to witness that change firsthand (and realize you weren’t surprised)? Have you ever thrown in the towel on yourself thinking you’ll never achieve that thing you really want, but just couldn’t stop dreaming? Well, look at you now with your goal in sight! No, not yet? Hold on to that hope, if you’re working toward it and it’s for you, it’s coming. If it’s not, something else you don’t even know you need is.

Not all change feels good, but good can always come from change.

Don’t get stuck. Don’t give up. Things change. Not all change feels good, but good can always come from change. Don’t be afraid to start fresh with something. Don’t be afraid to sit still long enough to figure out what you want, where you’re going, and who you’re going with. Be grateful for the past with its important lessons that will allow you to see things more clearly. I encourage you to remember that we were meant to live life right up until death. If you’re not dead, you have no reason to not be living.
