Mom-people

Growing up, the influence on my life was largely female. My Mom. My Grandma. My Aunts.

Each of these very different ladies helped to mold me into the person I am today. I have learnt so much from them, both directly and indirectly. I have learnt from their successes and achievements as well as from their mistakes and failures. I have learnt from them at their very best and at their worst. I have learnt that it’s just as important to know what to do as it is to know what not to do. It amazes me that they all shared one household for many years – as a mother and her daughters, because the lessons I have learnt from them individually are sometimes vastly different.

Fabulous, right?!

I have learnt:

Strength and gentleness.

Directness and subtlety.

Internal motivation with external results.

How to love through service and be expressive through words.

How to get it done and how to leave it be.

How to appreciate beauty and how to be efficient.

How to care too much and how to not possibly care less.

How to focus in and how to fall out with laughter.

A strong work ethic and creative methods.

How to use the knowledge I have and how to always be gaining more.

How to be resourceful and how to be accepting.

How to help others and how to care for myself.

How to be observant and how to turn a blind eye.

How to talk too much and how to simply listen.

How to look deeper and how to just chill.

How to cut with a look or word, and how to heal with a word or gesture.

How to move on and how to be loyal.

How to treat others right and what it looks and feels like to be treated thus.

That I must trust God even, and especially, in this harsh world.

How to protect others and how to let them know the truth.

Regardless of your influences, I know you have learnt a lot – whether it was directly, from observation, from wins, or from mistakes. Thank someone today. If you, like me, have lost some of these figures, thank God today for all He allowed them to share with you so you can now share with others. Let’s honor these women today by applying these lessons to our lives and carrying on the mantle.

Gran, Hilda Fuller, Mom – Veda Fagan, Aunt M – Mavis Fuller, we miss you. Thank you.

Aunt D – Dahlia Fuller, thank you.
