Unlearning. Discarding (something learned, especially a bad habit or false or outdated information) from one’s memory.
What thought patterns do you need to unlearn?
What behaviors do you need to unlearn?
Do you need to unlearn what being loved looks and feels like?
Do you need to unlearn what beauty is?
Do you need to unlearn the limits to your potential?
Do you need to unlearn unhealthy ways of dealing with stress and problems?
Do you need to unlearn how to treat others?
Do you need to unlearn what and how much to eat?
Do you need to unlearn unwise financial practices?
Do you need to unlearn low self-esteem?
Do you need to unlearn elitism and entitlement?
I could go on, but it’s not about a list to choose from.
It’s about being aware of the opinions we have heard and held for so long that we have come to believe them.
It’s about recognizing negative and untrue beliefs for what they are.
It’s about being willing to let them go without fully understanding how those changes will affect our lives.
It’s about realizing that even if something was true, if it’s not true now we can let it go, and celebrate the change.
It’s about seeking help where necessary.
It’s about taking the time to use the help and being okay with however long it takes and however much discomfort it entails.
It’s about not replacing these beliefs with other negative beliefs.
It’s about prioritizing our health – every aspect of it.
Unlearn your negative learnt beliefs and behaviors.
Will it be hard? Yes.
Will it be worth it? Yes. Very yes.
