There’s a word that goes against everything giving up stands for. It’s persistence.
Persistence is firm continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition.
Persistent is not something you do, it’s something you are.
Being persistent requires that you know what you want, why you want it, and that you know you are an integral part in bringing it into being.
So whatever it is you’re building…
Maybe you need to build a feeling of safety for your child who has lost a parent, and it’s hard because you’ve lost your partner in life too and wish someone would build a web of safety around you.
Maybe you need to build a shelter and a life because you’ve been wiped out by natural disaster, accident, or act of negligence.
Maybe you need to build a home within your shelter because yours has been torn apart by separation and the negativity that always accompanies it.
Maybe you need to build your dream career from the ground up.
Maybe you need to build your health and fitness.
Maybe you need to build your wealth as primary caregiver to your family.
Maybe you need to build faith and trust.
Maybe you need to build your self-esteem.
Maybe you’re feeling absolutely overwhelmed, but now is not the time to give up. The time to give up is never.
Perhaps your obstacle is money.
Perhaps it’s those closest to you.
Perhaps it’s your health.
Perhaps it’s a lack of knowledge.
Perhaps it’s fear.
Perhaps your obstacle is yourself.
Persistence requires you, commands you, to move forward REGARDLESS of these things. Move over them, around them, through them, or break them down bit by bit until they no longer pose a problem. Just press on.
Now persistence also means the continued or prolonged existence of something. My point here? We want the results of our dreams and goals to outlive us, to be our legend… to persist. We have to persist now in order to persist then.
Whatever it is that you want, if it’s positive, don’t give up. Be persistent.
